How to Select a Reliable Auto Transport Company?

The auto transport industry is filled with horror stories and countless problems. Damage, delays in the delivery, incorrect quote, and wrong routes are common problems people face when choosing a wrong company.

Since a lot of parties are involved, problems are bound to crop up. These problems are not always in your control, but you can minimize such issues as a customer. One of the most important things you should do is apply due diligence when choosing a vehicle transport company.

Here are some pertinent tips you should keep in mind when choosing a reliable auto transport company.

Check The Company’s License Status, Authorization

Every reliable transport company will have a license issued by FMCSA, the U.S Department of Transportation. FMCSA issues a unique MC number with transporting companies deemed efficient and safe to transport vehicles.

MC number is the official permission for the company to operate in the industry. Whichever company you choose, make sure to check their license and MC number online. If the number shows ‘Not Authorized’ for whatever reason, do not accept that company.

Ask How Long They Have Been In This Business

Many transport companies have come and gone. Many companies shut down after a few years of operation. Go for a company that has been in business for quite some time. They likely have a credit rating and a good reputation.

Check Reviews Online

It is essential to do your research before you settle down with a transport company. Dig out whatever information you can. Check their reviews online. See what other customers are saying about the company. There are many independent and credible review sites that you can check. Check out reviews on the likes of Google. You should also check out the Business Bureau and the company’s ratings on it.

Check for Cargo Insurance

Check whether the auto transport company has a valid cargo insurance policy. This will save you from a considerable loss should an accident or any other untoward incident occur during transportation.

Check for Delay Clauses

Before you sign up with a company, do read the terms and conditions carefully. Especially the delay clause as occasional delays due to vehicle or truck break down can happen any time.

Find out what the company says about such delays. Delays can occur for days or a maximum of up to a week. The delivery time stated should be after taking into account such delays.

Beware of the Cheapest Quotes

Be mindful of the price quotes. Transporting a vehicle from one state to another is expensive. So if you’ve been given a quote that sounds too good to be true, it probably is so.

However, that doesn’t mean you should go with the most expensive one either. Apply your judgment. Shop around and take quotes from multiple companies to compare. Also, keep in mind the points mentioned above.

Moving and recollecting a new place is full of challenges and more so when you have a vehicle to transport. You may want to make sure that your car reaches the new destination without any hassle or suffering any damage along the way. Choosing the right transportation company will save you from the stress of having to drive it yourself.
